Winter League Referee Training

AYSO Region 9 Basic Referee (U10) Online/Companion Course Certification steps

Step 1: You need to complete the AYSO Volunteer Application and take the online Safe Haven and Concussion Awareness training.

  1. a) Complete an AYSO Volunteer Applicationat eayso.org; be sure that you have eSigned the application!
If you are a returning volunteer (i.e. you completed a Volunteer application last year, for any Volunteer job) then you are done.
If you are a AYSO Volunteer, print out one (1) copy of the completed and eSigned Volunteer Application and bring that to the classroom session in step 3 (or deliver it to your Regional Referee Administrator.
Youth Referees (younger than age 18) also need to complete a Youth Volunteer Application, to be signed by a parent or legal guardian.
  2. b)Complete Safe Haven and Concussion Awareness online at aysotraining.org (you will need your AYSO ID# from step a above) and bring the printed completion certificate to class.  Referee badges and uniforms are provided by your Region. Region 9 Referee badges will not be issued until Safe Haven and Concussion Awareness have been completed.

Step 2: Online Training:  Most of the Regional Referee training can also be done online, at your convenience.  Go to www.aysotraining.org, enter your AYSO ID# and last name, and select the Basic Referee Online Training.  The online course should take about an hour to an hour and a half.
Step 3: Attend the Basic Referee Online Companion Course.  In Region 9, this will require 3 hours — 2 with an instructor on the field reviewing the online course material to prepare for the test.   We have found that combining the review on the soccer field, it is much easier for new referees to understand the material.   One hour will be aloted after the class for the written test.   Pre-register for the class at www.eayso.org:  go to Sign Up –> Course –> Roster # = 201605436 (Jan 13, 2017), click Search, select the course, and click Course Signup.
Note: You must study to pass the test.   We will answer any questions and help you understand the content during the field portion of the class, but this will not be sufficient to pass the test if you have not taken the online class and studied.   You will be able to take the test again if you fail – if you do your part and we do ours, this won’t happen.
