Dear Parents,
Thank you for attending our 4U Parent Meeting.  This email will summarize the presentation from the meeting as well as answer some of the common questions we’ve received.  We’re all looking forward to the 2019 season!

4U Program
The 4U Program is for kids under 4 years old (born in 2016) and is focused on teaching the fundamentals of soccer in a fun, engaging, and pressure-free environment.  We will meet once a week on Saturday mornings at the Conejo Creek South fields where the kids and parents will participate together in instructor-led activities designed to introduce the basic skills of the game.
Our coaches will set up drills and exercises in a playful setting that parents and kids will take part in together.  This format begins to inspire a love for the game by setting our youngest players up with the fundamentals they’ll use as they grow with the game.
More information about our 4U program can be found on our website https://www.ayso9.org

Practice Session Times
4U will meet each Saturday from September 7th through November 9 from 8:00 am – 8:55 am at the Conejo Creek South soccer playfields.  4U can be found in the large area in front of the snack shack, just past the 6U fields.

Important Dates
9/7 – Opening Day!  Practice session begins at 8:00 am.  Join us for a pancake breakfast sponsored by Kiwanis from 8:30 – 11 am!  For a small fee, you can enjoy pancakes, sausage, orange juice, and coffee.
9/28 – Picture Day
10/26 – Halloween Costume Day!  Kids can come dressed in their Halloween costumes!  Please no masks, and be sure they are still wearing their cleats and shin guards under socks.
11/9 – Last Practice Session

Uniforms
Program t-shirts will be distributed on opening day.  Cleats and socks/shin guards are optional.  Sneakers can be used instead of cleats (no sandals please).  Please also bring a size 3 soccer ball and water for your child.

Hi Parents,

My name is Patrick Hobert, AYSO Region 9’s Playground Director and I’d like to welcome you all to our program.

I’m really excited about this program and I think everybody is going to have a lot of fun!

Before we get into the fun part, there are a couple of things that the Playground Program is NOT:
First, it is not a day care. You or another family member over the age of 12 will be required to participate in the activities with your child so comfortable clothes and athletic shoes are a good idea.
Second, and this one might surprise some of you, it is not a soccer program. While I would enjoy watching the cutest soccer game ever as much as anyone, it would not benefit the players at all. This program was designed with input from child psychologists and developmental specialists to help 3-year-olds learn fundamental motor skills which will help them not only in their budding soccer careers, but in any sport they may play in the future and improve their coordination and “physical literacy” in daily life. (If your 3-year-old is anything like mine, that last part will be especially helpful.)

So, now that we’re all disappointed about missing out on the cutest soccer game ever, here’s what we will be doing:
each player will receive their own Playtime Adventure Activity Storybook to take home and bring back each Saturday. The Storybook outlines each activity we will be doing each Saturday as well as some things to work on at home. There are also “treasures” that are earned when we complete each adventure.  The activities will be led by professional UK trainers (with cool accents) who are specially trained in the developmental needs of 3 and 4 year-olds and energetic enough to keep them engaged and having fun.

Opening day will be Saturday, September 8. The session will start at 8AM, so please try to arrive 15 minutes early. Until then, if you have any questions feel free to send me an email at [email protected]

Thanks!
Pat

(added 8/7/2018) For those of you who weren't able to come to the Fall 2018 4U/5U parents meeting, click here for the information which was shared at that meeting. I am still working on finalizing the session times and I will hopefully have U5 uniforms soon so we can distribute them before the season starts. U4 t-shirts and storybooks will be available on opening day. I hope this together with the presentation will help answer most of your questions, but, as always feel free to email me any time at [email protected]

Thanks,
-Patrick Hobert, 4U/5U Program Director
