Extra Program FAQs

Q- When does the 2022 EXTRA Season Start?
A- Teams are formed in March and April at the tryouts, but the regular season dos not start until August 1. EXTRA teams are not permitted to practice in July, although we may have clinics to be held by the trainers.

Q- What does the EXTRA Program Cost?
A- The 2022 EXTRA Program registration player fees are $450 per player, plus uniforms.

Q- What do the registration fees include?
A- Practices and games at Conejo Creek South, augmented player development through paid trainers who assist our volunteer coaches during the regular season, one preseason tournament, and the post season EXTRA Championship.

Q- What is not included in the registration fees?
A- Uniforms, any additional tournaments the team decides to play in, and individual player equipment.

Q- When are the registration fees due?
A- All registration fees are due by April 15, 2022

Q- Is there a scholarship or financial aid opportunities for the EXTRA program?
A- Not currently, though individual teams may choose to pursue sponsorship or other fundraising opportunities to help offset the costs of the program.

Q- Who coaches EXTRA Teams?
A- Highly trained volunteer coaches apply and are selected to coach EXTRA teams. They typically have 5 or more years of coaching experience, and more training credentials than are required to coach a core season AYSO team. All volunteers have taken AYSO Safe Haven training. Each team will have a head coach and an assistant coach. See our Extra Coaches page for more information.

Q- How Does EXTRA Compare to Club Soccer programs?
A- Both AYSO EXTRA and Club are competitive soccer programs targeting players that have a stronger desire and ability to play soccer. However, AYSO EXTRA focuses on the development of players in a competitive (but not a cut-throat) environment. All players in the AYSO EXTRA program will play at least 3/4 of every game.

Q- Can an EXTRA player also play on a Fall or Spring Core Team or a Club Team?
A- No. EXTRA teams  stay together for Fall and Spring. Players will only play on their EXTRA team and will not conflict with other programs. Club players are not permitted to play on Extra teams as both teams are competitive and require significant practice and game commitments.

Q- Is there a volunteer requirement for families of EXTRA players?
A- Yes, just like in the AYSO core program, the families of EXTRA players are required to volunteer in some capacity. Options include; referee, team parent, snack bar work, field set-up/take down, information booth, and more. AYSO is a volunteer driven organization and it needs all the help from player families it can get.

For any parents willing to volunteer as Referee, additional consideration will be given to their players during tryouts to help make the team. (A parent committing to volunteering as a referee will serve as additional credit towards a player's tryout scores.)

Q- What is the difference between the AYSO Extra and AYSO United programs?
A- AYSO EXTRA Program teams play in the AYSO EXTRA league against other AYSO EXTRA teams. AYSO United teams play in the Cal South or Coast Soccer Leagues against Club Soccer teams. Both programs are designed for more skilled players, utilize volunteer coaches, and follow the AYSO guidelines (Everyone Plays, Balanced Teams, Open Registration, Positive Coaching, Good Sportsmanship, and Player Development.)

Q- What is the weekly time commitment for EXTRA players?
A- Teams practice twice a week for 90 minutes each session. Regular season games are typically on Saturdays, with 50% of the games at the Thousand Oaks home fields, and 50% at other region's fields. Teams can also elect to play in tournaments which usually take place on a Saturday and Sunday.
