Coach Training

(updated 8/20/2021)

To become an AYSO Coach you will need to follow the steps below:

Step 1:  You need to complete the AYSO Volunteer Application and take the online Safe HavenConcussion Awareness and Sudden Cardiac Arrest training.

a)  Register as an AYSO Volunteer in SportConnect as a HEAD COACH (for your child's Division); be sure that you have eSigned the application!  Detailed instructions can be found on the Region 9 website at https://www.ayso9.org/Default.aspx?tabid=866537
If you are a returning Region 9 volunteer (i.e. you completed a Volunteer application last year for Region 9, for any Volunteer job) then you are done.
If you are a new Region 9 Volunteer, print out one (1) copy of the completed and eSigned Volunteer Application and bring that to the first class session.

 b)    Complete Safe HavenConcussion Awareness and Sudden Cardiac Arrest training online using the  AYSO U training website.

i.  From the Region 9 Home page click on AYSOU in the main menu, and login with the same Username and Password as you use for logging in to SportsConnect (Player and Volunteer Registration program).
ii.  Select Online Courses, then Safe Haven Courses, then Open the free course you want (AYSO's Safe Haven, CDC Concussion course, or SCA).
iii.  Complete each course.
iv.  After passing the Final Exam, download the course Certificate to your computer (perhaps to your desktop, so you remember where it is!).
v.  Go back to SportsConnect and click on My Account (green button in the upper right)
vi.  click on Volunteer in the left side menu
vii.  click on the check box next to the Certification you wish to get credit for (Concussion Awareness, Sudden Cardiac Arrest, AYSOs Safe Haven)
viii.  click the Renew & Update button near the bottom
viv.  A small window will open up; click the Upload button and select the PDF file you saved to your computer
vv.  repeat steps viii. and viv.  for each of the 3 courses.
The status for that Certification will change from "None" to "Pending Verification"; in a week of so that should change to "Verified"
vvi.  if the Status for your Risk Status is "None", check the box next to Risk Status and click the Renew & Update button to submit your volunteer information for the required background check.

Please Pre-register for any of the Region 9 Coach classes at the same AYSOU website as you used for Safe HavenConcussion Awareness and Sudden Cardiac Arrest (click on AYSOU from the main Region 9 menu).
1.  click on In-Person Courses from the AYSOU main menu
2.  Open the Coach Instructor Led Courses
3.  click the Open button to the right of the class you wish attend (6U Coach, 8U Coach, 10U Coach, or 12U Coach), then click the Sessions button on the next screen.
5.  scroll through the entire list of offerings for that class for all dates and locations.  Look for the class that includes "Thousand Oaks CA", on the date you want (7 Aug or 21 Aug).
6.  click on the Register button to the right of the class date and location you want.  That's it!  You'r registered.

You must take the 12U Coaching Training Pre-Course online at aysou.org before you can take the 12U Coach In-Person Course (New!)
You must take the 12U Course before you can take the Intermediate Course
You  must take the Intermediate Course before you can take the Advanced Course

If you are unable to attend any of the available Coach courses offered by Region 9, you may also complete the required training at a neighboring AYSO Region.  Look for courses in Section 10, Area E (eastern Ventura County); Section 10, Area W (western Ventura County); or Section 10, Area V (San Fernando Valley).

Make sure you receive a Completion Certificate – or you might need to retake it 🙁

For all Coach Clinics Bring:

  • Water (lots, especially if it is a warm sunny day)
