Coach Training

Coaches and asst Coaches; To become an AYSO Coach you will need to follow the steps below:

“You need to register as an AYSO Volunteer in Sports Connect and take the online Safe HavenConcussion Awareness, Sudden Cardiac Arrest and SafeSport training !!!!!!” Then have a coaching certificate for the division you will be coaching.

You must also be fingerprinted (State Requirement and submit information to Risk Status)

Steps.

1)     Before anything else, Register as an AYSO Volunteer in Sports Connect as a HEAD COACH or Assistant Coach (for your child's Division). Detailed instructions are available on the Region 9 Website: https://www.ayso9.org/Default.aspx?tabid=866537  “Be Sure to ESIGN your registration

2)     Goto AYSOU training website to complete Safe Haven, Concussion Awareness, Sudden Cardiac Arrest, and SafeSport training online.

a.     SafeSport - this is a new required course for all AYSO Volunteers as of 2022.  Click here for detailed instructions on how to register for SafeSport, to ensure that you get AYSO credit for completing the online course.
b.     Concussion Awareness – online
c.      Safe Haven – online
d.     Sudden Cardiac Arrest – online
e.     Finger printing (Required by State of California)

3)     Coaches Clinics.

AYSO's U-6, U-8, U-10 and U-12 courses are all considered "stand-alone" courses, meaning that you may take any one of them without having taken any prior courses. The U-12 course then becomes the prerequisite for taking the Intermediate course, which is the prerequisite for taking the Advanced course, which is the prerequisite for taking the National course. 

Please Pre-register for any of the Region 9 Coach classes at the same AYSOU website as you used for Safe Haven, Concussion Awareness, Sudden Cardiac Arrest and SafeSport.

  • NOTE: If you are unable to attend any of the available Coach courses offered by Region 9, you may also complete the required training at a neighboring AYSO Region:
    6U - 12U courses available 22June & 19July in Agoura/Westlake; 28 June & 26 July in Newbury Park.

10U & 12U only 19 July & 9 August in Moorpark
Simi Valley has 6U on 6 August, 8U on 7 August, 10U & 12U on 2 August
Look for other courses in Section 10, Area E (eastern Ventura County); Section 10, Area W (western Ventura County); or Section 10, Area V (San Fernando Valley).

Make sure you receive a Completion Certificate – or you might need to take it again

For all Coach Field Companion Clinics, Bring:

  •  Water (lots, especially if it is a warm sunny day)
  •  Soccer Ball (you will use it a lot)
  •  Lawn Chair (have available in car, may or may not want one)
  •  Sunglasses and Sunscreen, soccer cleats or tennis shoes, shin guards (if desired)
  •  Pen, Pencil, Notebooks (if you like to take notes)

Come dressed to play!!!.

These clinics are about 1/3 class and 2/3 field work. Expect to get a good workout. You will receive a coaching manual at the end of the clinic.

U6 – U12 Coaches may take the age-appropriate course on either 8/2/2025 or 8/16/2025:

The 8/2 and 8/16 6U-12U Coaching Courses will be held at 
Conejo Creek South Park,
1300 E Janss Rd, Thousand Oaks, CA 91362 (the fields closest to the snack bar)

Intermediate Coach:

Coaches in the 14U division must be certified as an Intermediate coach.  Area 10E is hosting Intermediate Coach training this year, to be held on August 9th. Location, times and other details to follow.
You can register for the course via AYSOU:

Training Event => (location) => look for (date) => 14U Intermediate Coach Training - Area 10E Regions, (4, 9, 42, 121, 363, & 759)
Read all the details and prerequisites carefully!
You must have completed the 12U Coach Course before you can register for the Intermediate Course. 

  •  When: August 9th
  • Class starts at 8:00am and ends by 5:00pm
  • Where (tba)
  • Register at AYSOU
  • Bring: Pen/pencil and a note pad.

 Note: There will also be a field session so wear appropriate shoes and bring sunscreen, water and a soccer ball.
