AllStar Program

All-Star FAQ’s

What is the All-Star program?

The All-Star program is a soccer program for players: that want to continue play after the fall core season; have higher level skill sets; and desire to compete in games and tournaments with the best soccer players from other AYSO regions.

How are Coaches & Players Selected?

Coaches in good standing with the Region are selected in all competitive divisions observing players throughout the season and inviting them to join Region 9’s All-Star teams.  All Star coaches typically have a higher level of experience in competitive play, AYSO coaching certification and or holds a USSF coaching license.

Player Eligibility: Must have played in the fall core program and played in a minimum of half of their fall team’s games.

Coach Selection: Coaching interest should be directed to the All Stars Coordinator - Steve Popp - indicating: division/gender & brief overview of coaching experience.  Note: All coaches must be approved by the AS Coordinator & Region 9 eBoard.

How long does the All-Star season last?

Length of the post-season is up to each team with tournament availability beginning December through June. There is no minimum tournament entry requirement.  However, each All Star team should expect to participate in a minimum of five tournaments which includes: Area E All-Star tournament (in January) and our own Pot O’ Gold tournament (in March).  Typically, All Star teams participate, on average, in one tournament per month.

How much does it cost?

All teams are self funded with no scholarships offered, however, each team can be supported by sponsors.  Costs is dependent on the number of tournament participation but can range from $325 – $500/per player.  Noteworthy: Cost of tournaments range from $450-$600 with an additional cost of a referee deposit ($150-$200); and uniforms & accessories are an additional cost.

What is the time commitment for players and their families?

To join an All-Star team, we ask players and parents to commit to two 90-minute practices a week through the season and typically one (1) weekend tournament a month. In addition, we insist the AYSO All-Star commitment come before any other sport during the All-Star season.

Each team is required to have an assistant coach (AYSO-trained and certified) as well as support from a Team Manager.  Further,  All-Star teams do not have Team Referees per se, but almost all tournaments require teams to provide a AYSO certified referee crew or forfeit their referee deposit.
