OVERVIEW

ALL referees (new and returning) need to complete the AYSO Volunteer Application.
See step A) below

ALL referees must take the online Safe HavenConcussion Awareness and Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) training.
New referees need to do this before you can step onto the fields.
Returning referees need to do this every 2 years.  Since we missed all of last season, it's time to take these again!
See Step B) below.

NEW AYSO Referees must complete the appropriate Referee Training:
 7U/8U Referee Training (CLICK HERE)
or
10U/12U/14U Referee Training (CLICK HERE).

A)  Register as an AYSO Volunteer in SportConnect as a REFEREE (for your child's Division, if you plan to be a Team Referee; or for any Division if you are an at-large referee); be sure that you have eSigned the application!  Detailed instructions can be found on the Region 9 website at https://www.ayso9.org/Default.aspx?tabid=866537

If you are a returning Region 9 volunteer (i.e. you completed a Volunteer application last year for Region 9, for any Volunteer job) then proceed to Step B.

If you are a new Region 9 Volunteer, print out one (1) copy of the completed and eSigned Volunteer Application and bring that to the first class session.

Youth Referees (younger than age 18) need to complete a separate Youth Volunteer Application, to be electronically signed by a parent or legal guardian. and returned at a class or meeting.

B)    Complete Safe HavenConcussion Awareness and Sudden Cardiac Arrest training online using the  AYSO U training website.
i.  From the Region 9 Home page click on AYSOU in the main menu, and login with the same Username and Password as you use for logging in to SportsConnect (Player and Volunteer Registration program).
ii.  Select Online Courses, then Safe Haven Courses, then AYSO's Safe Haven, CDC Concussion course, or SCA.
iii.  After passing each course's Final Exam, download the course Certificate to your computer (perhaps to your desktop, so you remember where it is!).
iv.  Go back to SportsConnect and click on My Account (green button in the upper right)
v.  click on Volunteer in the left side menu
vi.  click on the check box next to the Certification you wish to get credit for (Concussion Awareness, Sudden Cardiac Arrest, AYSOs Safe Haven)
vii.  click the Renew & Update button near the bottom
viii.  A small window will open up; click the Upload button and select the PDF file you saved to your computer
viv.  repeat steps vii. and viii.  for each of the 3 courses.
The status for that Certification will change from "None" to "Pending Verification"; in a week of so that should change to "Verified"
vv.  if the Status for your Risk Status is "None", check the box next to Risk Status and click the Renew & Update button to submit your volunteer information for the required background check.  You will be taken to the Sterling site, a third party contracted by AYSO for background checks.  There is a $25 fee that you can assign to AYSO in the process.

Referee badges cannot be issued until Safe Haven, Concussion Awareness and Sudden Cardiac Arrest training have been completed.

If you are unable to attend any of the available Referee courses offered by Region 9, you may also complete the required training at a neighboring AYSO Region (8U Official or Regional Referee courses only!).  Click here for information about Referee Training in our neighboring Regions (in case you are not able to attend any of the Region 9 training).
